A third win in a row for Congress
What happened
Congress won a third term in a row, holding on to power in Delhi.
The Indian National Congress won 43 of the 70 seats on offer.
That was on 40.3% of the vote share — the slice of all ballots cast that went to one party or candidate.
Its nearest rival, the Bharatiya Janata Party, won 23 seats.
What changed
Congress extended its winning streak in Delhi to a run no other party in the modern assembly has matched.
It was the party's 3th win in a row.
Even so, its seat count slipped from 47 at the previous election to 43 this time.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from the results stand out on their own.
Rajouri Garden, Delhi saw the tightest finish of the night, decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of just 46 votes.
Mangol Puri, Delhi posted the highest turnout — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot — at 64.8%.
New Delhi, Delhi drew the most candidates of the year, 25 in total.
The most crowded rolls belonged to Vikaspuri, Delhi, with 2,45,769 names on the electoral roll.
The backdrop
This election also opened the door to a new party in Delhi's assembly.
One party, BSP, won a seat in Delhi for the first time this election.
