What happened
Bharatiya Janata Party held on, but again without a majority of its own.
The BJP won 40 of the 90 seats.
That left the house hung — a result where no single party wins enough seats to govern alone.
The runner-up, Indian National Congress, won 31 seats.
What changed
The party that had governed alone last time lost some ground, and a new regional party entered the assembly for the first time.
The BJP went from 47 seats to 40.
About 68.1% of registered voters turned out to cast a ballot, having moved by -8.1 pp from the record level the state had just set.
Notable numbers
A few numbers from that election stand out.
The tightest finish was in Sirsa, Haryana, decided by a margin of just 602 votes — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.
The widest winning margin came in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, Haryana, where the winner finished 39.3% of the vote ahead of the runner-up.
Ellenabad, Haryana recorded the highest turnout of any single seat, at 83.2%.
The most crowded ballot was in Hansi, Haryana, where 25 candidates stood for the seat.
