Puducherry's assembly changed hands again, and the vote split even further.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won the most seats, 12 of 30, in its first-ever contest.

That was short of the 16-seat majority mark — a hung house, where no party wins enough seats to govern alone.

The outgoing Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam fell hardest, a collapse from the government it had just led.

This election reshuffled the assembly heavily, with seats changing hands from the party that had just governed.

22 of the 30 seats flipped to a new party this election.

The single biggest shift was DMK to ADK, which happened in 11 seats alone.

Among them, ADK and NCO were winning seats in the territory's assembly for the first time.

A few numbers from this election stand out on their own.

Even with the most seats, the ADK took only 27.8% of the vote share — the slice of all ballots cast that went to one party or candidate.

Thirubuvanai, Puducherry was the closest race, decided by just 35 votes — the margin, how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second.

Nettapakkam, Puducherry posted the best turnout of the election, at 89.9% — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot.

Raj Bhavan, Puducherry saw the widest margin of the night, with the winner ahead by 30.2% of the vote.

The field kept splintering further this election, with even more parties picking up seats than before.
