Across the territory, 24 of the 30 seats changed hands from the previous election.

The closest finish was in Embalom, Puducherry, decided by a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, over whoever came second — of just 182 votes.

At the other end, Nettapakkam, Puducherry saw the widest margin of the election, at 45.9% of the vote.

Turnout — the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot — peaked at 92.9% in Orleampeth, Puducherry.

It was lowest in Bussy, Puducherry, at 62.8%.

Contests in Puducherry have rarely produced an outright majority, with power passing between Congress and Tamil Nadu's Dravidian parties.
