The BJP's landslide win in Rajasthan
What happened
Bharatiya Janata Party won a landslide victory in Rajasthan, taking over from Indian National Congress.
It won 163 of the 200 seats, 62 more than it needed for a majority.
INC finished next, with 21 seats.
Turnout, the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot, rose to 75.6%, the highest recorded in the state's history.
What changed
The clearest movement ran between the state's two largest parties that year.
83 seats swung from INC to BJP, more than any other pair of parties, out of 129 seats that changed hands in all.
That took BJP's own seat tally from 78 to 163.
Notable numbers
The closest race was at Amber, Rajasthan, decided by 329 votes.
Alwar Urban, Rajasthan was the most one-sided result, with a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of 44.3% of the vote.
Sumerpur, Rajasthan recorded the lowest turnout of any seat, at 61.2%.
1.9% of all votes went to NOTA — "None of the Above," a ballot option letting voters formally reject every candidate on offer.
The backdrop
Vasundhara Raje had been here before: she became Rajasthan's first woman chief minister on 8 December 2003, served until December 2008, and returned to the post after this election.1
