Telangana Rashtra Samithi held onto power, winning more seats than it had at the previous election.

It won 88 of the 119 seats on offer.

That left it 28 seats clear of a majority.

Its nearest rival, Indian National Congress, finished with 19 seats.

TRS won again in Telangana, extending its hold on power.

It has now won 2 elections in a row in the state.

Turnout, the share of registered voters who actually cast a ballot, also reached a new high for the state at 73.7%.

Its own seat count rose from 63 to 88.

A few numbers from the results stand out.

The closest race was in Asifabad, Telangana, decided by 171 votes.

Siddipet, Telangana was the most one-sided result of the count, with a margin — how far ahead the winner finished, in votes, over whoever came second — of 71.1% of the vote.

The single highest turnout of the year was in Palair, Telangana, where 92.2% of registered voters cast a ballot.

Malkajgiri, Telangana drew the most candidates of the year, 42 names on the ballot.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao dissolved the Telangana assembly on 6 September 2018, months ahead of its five-year term.¹
